BOSTON, MA. — The Young Democrats of Massachusetts are saddened to learn of the passing of former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright. The first female officeholder, Secretary Albright paved the way for women after her, with Secretaries Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton serving in their capabilities from 2005-2007 and 2009-2013 respectively.
Serving under the Clinton Administration, Secretary Albright oversaw the United States' post-cold war foreign policy, including representing the U.S. at the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong, an avid advocate for NATO, and was a key voice in the push for Iraq to destroy all weapons of mass destruction. She also sought stability in central and eastern Europe, and YDMA is saddened by her passing during the Ukraine-Russia conflict and Women's History Month.
After her term was up, Secretary Albright continued to dedicate her life to international affairs, where she would go on to author bestsellers and provide global consulting strategy. YDMA is forever grateful for all Secretary Albright did for our country and party, and we send our thoughts and prayers to the Albright family in this difficult time.
