For the past several years I’ve been a youth add-on delegate to the Massachusetts Democratic Party State Convention. It’s a wonderful opportunity for young people to play a role in the Democratic Party. If you were not elected at your caucus, I hope you’ll consider applying as an add-on delegate and that you’ll help us recruit other young Democrats to do the same.
This year’s convention will be held at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, MA on June 2nd. The deadline to apply as an add-on delegate is March 30th. Registered Democrats 35 and under may apply to be youth add-on delegates, and as an active member of YDM you will receive preference in the application process. The party is also accepting applications from individuals who wish to apply as Minority or Disabled add-on delegates. If you have not already filled out an application or been elected at your local caucus, please fill one out today.
As a delegate to the Democratic State Convention, you will be able to vote on changes to the Party Platform, endorse candidates for state-wide offices (including the Democrat who will be challenge Senator Scott Brown), and vote upon other Party business. You’ll have an opportunity to have your voice heard, meet other Democrats from across the state, and network at a party hosted by the Pioneer Valley Democrats.
To increase youth participation in the state convention, the Young Democrats will host a phonebank to recruit members to apply as youth add-on delegates. Please join us Thursday March 22nd from 5 to 8 p.m. at Elizabeth Warren’s campaign headquarters 5 Middlesex Ave. in Somerville.
