As Iowans consider the Republican presidential candidates this weekend at the Ames Straw Poll, it has become increasingly clear that this field has little or nothing to offer for young Americans.  The GOP candidates continue to lurch to the right, embracing extreme Tea Party views that are out of step with voters under the age of 30.

While young voters have supported a pragmatic approach to the federal deficit with a combination of tax increases and spending cuts, the Republican presidential candidates continue to advocate for ending essential government programs and balancing the budget on the backs of students and young families.  Their policies, including massive tax breaks for corporations and the richest 1% of Americans, would produce the largest shift in generational wealth in the history of our country.
