The Young Democrats of Massachusetts Announce 2012 Endorsements
Boston, Massachusetts – October 17, 2012 – The Young Democrats of Massachusetts (YDM) have announced the endorsement of 22 Democratic candidates who have demonstrated a consistent track record of building a better commonwealth for young people to succeed. YDM chose candidates for their unwavering advocacy of youth issues including jobs and the economy, access to healthcare, affordable quality education, and equal rights. We proudly support these candidates by taking both grassroots and fundraising action on their behalf.
“The candidates that we endorse support policies that benefit youth in the state. The Young Democrats of Massachusetts is continuing its legacy of supporting strong Democratic leadership in Washington and on Beacon Hill.” said John H. Kleschinsky, Chair of the Young Democrats of Massachusetts. “Young people across the Commonwealth are in a stronger position to succeed economically and socially with Democratic policies in place. That’s why we are mobilizing to ensure they win in this election.”

The Young Democrats of Massachusetts selected candidates based on their position on specific issues we determined are critical to the Commonwealth’s future. They include:
- Jobs and the Economy: YDM supports candidates that will work to develop and maintain employment opportunities for young people in Massachusetts. A vital part of this is maintaining the right to collective bargaining, and investing in accessible public transportation.
- Housing for Graduates and Young Families: YDM endorsed candidates who support increasing affordable housing options, funding for homeless shelters and housing for veterans.
- Accessibility and Affordability of Quality Education: YDM supports candidates that have worked to stop cutting local education aid to public schools and believe in investment in education including funding for Pre-K and special education to financial aid for college and graduate school.
- Equal Opportunities: YDM takes a strong stance on equality and civil rights for all including a woman’s right to choose, reproductive health care services, pay equity, protecting same-sex marriage, increased funding and flexibility for EBT and Food Stamps, and access to in-state tuition for immigrants through the DREAM Act.
To support these candidates, the Young Democrats of Massachusetts has held eight dedicated days of action on behalf of endorsed candidates. Called Youth Boots, YDM tapped into its nearly 2000 person strong membership to bring together volunteers from across the state in support and solidarity. By knocking on hundreds of doors and having crucial one-on-one conversations with voters, YDM members will make a strong impact on this election.
