Attend the *rescheduled* 2012 YDM Convention

Due to the many members and friends of YDM who will be attending the Democratic State Committee meeting on May 5 , YDM has reschedule our Annual Convention to Saturday, May 26 at SEIU 1199, 150 Mt. Vernon St., Boston, MA (plenty of parking and just a short walk from JFK/UMass Station on the Red Line). All members are invited to join us for a great day of informative workshops, featured speakers, and the election of our new Board.

All are welcome to participate in this fantastic day of events. Registration starts at just $15 for YDM members and just $10 for students, and will include breakfast and lunch, informative workshops, professional networking, engaging speakers, and the election of next year’s officers. Be sure to register by May 11 to take advantage of our discounted rate! After the convention, join members for a social hosted by the Greater Boston Young Democrats.

The Convention is also an opportunity to run for a position on the 2012 YDM Board of Directors. As a reminder, eligibility to vote or run for a Board position requires you be under 36 years old, a registered Democrat in Massachusetts, and to have attended at least two events in the last year. However, anyone who is not eligible to vote or run is still welcome to participate in the rest of the day’s events. If  you are unable to attend the convention in person, you may accept a nomination for office in writing. For a complete list of board seats, please visit: http://ydma.org/about/board/ and for more information about how the organization works, please review our charter and bylaws.

Anyone interested in running for a position can send an email to elections@ydma.org that includes their full name, the position they are seeking, and a brief statement that will be made available to members in advance of the convention. Candidates who declare their intention to run will have their names printed on the ballot, but any eligible member may be nominated from the floor.

Additionally, should you wish to propose an amendment to the YDM charter, bylaws, or platform, they should be submitted to elections@ydma.org by May 11 in order to be made available to members, though proposals may be made from the floor with a 3/4ths vote of attendees to suspend the rules .

We hope you will participate in this year’s Convention and in the leadership and direction of YDM. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about the Convention or about running for a position with YDM. And please invite your friends and colleagues. This is a terrific opportunity to network with other young, Democratic activists and build the future leadership of the Democratic Party.

Reserve your tickets now!

We look forward to seeing you there!
